University of Southern Maine junior Ben Drummey successfully defended his national title in in the pole vault after clearing 5.05 meters at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Drummey successfully cleared his first four heights on the first attempt, including his first try at 5.05 meters, matching his national championship winning height from a year ago. He was the lone competitor to clear five meters on the day. Ithaca College’s Dominic Mikula, Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Eli Tranel and College of Wooster’s Dylan Garretson were his next-closest competitors at 4.95 meters.
 
Plymouth State University senior Jacob Rigoli earned All-America honors in the weight throw after placing fifth with a toss of 19.;00 meters on his final attempt, while Rhode Island College’s Michelson Salomon finished 17th with a top mark of 17.31 meters. Carthage College’s Joseph White won the event with a throw of 21.41 meters.
 
Also competing Friday was RIC’s Steven Doss, who finished 16th in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 48.71 seconds. The final competitor advancing to Saturday’s final was Knox University’s Tyrell Pierce, who clocked in at 48.19 seconds.
 
UMass Dartmouth senior Andrew Swallow finished 16th in the shot put Saturday with a top toss of 15.32 meters on his second and third attempts. Wentworth's Jared Pierce placed in the eight and final All-America position with a mark of 16.10 meters.
